Sweet or savory? A favorite treat? Something they can’t eat? A few small details can make a welcome gift feel much more personal.
But is asking about your clients’ snack preferences, allergies, and diets too intrusive? It doesn’t have to be. Keep it simple, make it optional, and let them know why you’re asking.
One question before they arrive
You don’t need a long questionnaire. Try adding this to your pre-arrival email:
“We’d love to have something you’ll enjoy waiting for you. Any favorite snacks, dietary preferences, or food allergies you’d like us to know about? Only share what you’re comfortable with.”
That gives your team time to choose something thoughtfully, instead of guessing or making last-minute changes. Whether it’s a hotel stay, a private flight, or a client gift, knowing a little ahead of time helps you create a more personal experience.
Keep it easy, and follow through
Guests don’t need to explain why they follow a certain diet. Ask what would work for them, keep their answers private, and ask before saving those details for next time.
Food allergies need extra care. Check ingredients and possible cross-contact with your suppliers, and be honest about what you can accommodate. No answer doesn’t mean no allergies. If food isn’t a good fit, a non-food gift can still be a lovely welcome. FARE has more on cross-contact.
The best part is using what you learn. A guest who prefers savory snacks gets something they’ll actually enjoy. A returning client finds their favorite treat waiting. Small details, but they say, “We thought about you.”
